Storm Clouds, Sticky Margaritas, and a Perfect Wedding Night

By Luna Belle

Some weddings test your nerves before the first guest even arrives. This one certainly tested mine.

The day before the wedding, powerful storms rolled through Michigan. Rain poured down, soaking the ground and leaving everyone wondering what would happen to this beautiful outdoor celebration. Since I was scheduled to be parked in the backyard, I spent the night worrying.

What if the lawn was too soft? What if I sank into the grass? What if my wheels left giant ruts across the property before the wedding even started? As much as I love making an entrance, that wasn’t exactly the kind of impression I wanted to make.

The next day, Ray carefully guided me toward the backyard. Everyone watched closely as my tires rolled across the lawn.

And you know what?

Nothing happened. No sinking. No spinning tires. No deep tracks. The ground was surprisingly firm, and I glided right into position without causing any damage. The first challenge of the day was behind me, and I was feeling pretty confident.

Unfortunately, confidence can be a dangerous thing.

Because just when I thought everything was going smoothly, disaster struck. During setup, one of my keg lines suddenly popped off.

Within seconds, margarita was spraying everywhere. Not dripping. Not leaking. Spraying. Before anyone could react, there was margarita growing a sticky puddle all over my cleaned floor.

Poor Ray. He was handling setup completely by himself that day, and suddenly he found himself chasing down a rogue keg line while trying to keep gallons of margarita from escaping.

Thankfully, he sprang into action, shut everything down, and made the repair before guests arrived. The repair wasn’t too bad.

The cleanup, however? Let’s just say Ray smelled like citrus and tequila for the rest of the afternoon. With the crisis behind us, I finally had a chance to focus on why I was there.

This wedding was special because it was my very first event using the Belmont Package.

Normally, Anna, Ray, or one of our team members stays with me throughout the event. But the Belmont Package is different. The Derby Bar delivers me, gets everything set up, stocks the drinks, and then leaves me in the capable hands of the venue or host.

To be honest, it made me nervous. Really nervous.

What if something broke after they left? What if someone accidentally damaged me? What if I couldn’t deliver the experience the bride and groom were counting on?

Most importantly… What if I let them down?

Once Ray drove away, there was nothing left to do except trust the preparation and hope for the best.

As it turns out, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. The wedding was incredible. In fact, it featured the largest drink menu I’ve ever hosted.

Guests had access to an amazing selection of drinks! Liquors, beers, wines, seltzers, bubbles, signature cocktails, it was all there! There were so many choices that they nearly didn’t fit on the menu board.

I loved watching guests walk up and stare at the menu while trying to decide what to order first.

One drink quickly became the star of the evening.

The Bella Rita.

That margarita was flying out of my taps all night long. Guests kept coming back for another round, and by the end of the evening it was clear that the Bella Rita had become the crowd favorite.

The greenery wall was another huge hit. Throughout the night, guests gathered around it for photos, creating memories and capturing moments from a beautiful celebration.

A few days later, the bride left a review that made my wheels blush:

“I did a ton of research and got quotes from multiple portable bar services before choosing The Derby Bar and it did not disappoint. Save your time and just book them! The presentation was exquisite and really took the wedding to the next level. Any questions I had about anything they answered immediately and really helped take the stress of drink planning for over 100 people away. 10/10 on the Bella Rita signature drink, it was the biggest hit all night long. I really couldn’t say enough good things about every aspect of their services! Everyone at the wedding just loved the bar and the greenery wall was a huge hit for pictures. Thanks for adding to our amazing evening!”

Reading those words reminded me why I love weddings so much. It’s never just about the drinks. It’s about helping create an atmosphere. It’s about giving people a place to gather. It’s about guests making memories.

When Ray returned later that night to pick me up, the party was still buzzing with energy. Guests were smiling, conversations were flowing, and everyone seemed to be having an incredible time. Most importantly, I had made it through my very first Belmont Package wedding without a scratch.

No damage. No breakdowns. No disappointed guests. Just one very tired mobile bar trailer.

By the end of the night, I was completely emptied of drinks, ice, and nearly every ounce of energy I had. I worked hard that evening. And it was worth every minute.

Looking back, it’s funny how worried I was about the storms, the muddy lawn, the exploding margarita line, and all the things that could have gone wrong.

Because in the end, what mattered was simple. To make sure the bride and groom had an amazing wedding, their guests had a wonderful time, and I got to be part of the memories.

For a vintage horse trailer turned mobile bar, that’s a pretty good day’s work.

Until the next celebration,
